One of the questions we hear most often from the DreamBox community is, “Does the DreamBox work on carpet?” The short answer is yes! Your DreamBox can work well on carpeted floors, but depending on your carpet type, a few smart tips can make setup and everyday use even easier.

We’ve gathered advice from our team and our amazing Facebook community so you can find the perfect setup for your creative space.
What Type of Carpet Works Best?
Low to Medium Pile:
Most low- to medium-pile carpets will work great with your DreamBox. The fibers are short and firm enough to create a stable foundation, which allows the box to open and close well. For most DreamBox owners, this setup works out-of-the-box with little to no adjustments.
“My DreamBox is on carpet and works just fine, I don't have a lot of heavy supplies in it and the carpet is regular pile, not anything super-plush.” – Emilie E., Facebook Group
“My DreamBox has been on carpet for 3 years and I have no issues closing and opening it!” - Nikki C., Facebook Group

High Pile Carpet:
High-pile carpet can make closing the DreamBox slightly more difficult. Many of our community members who have this carpet still make it work! But find that it’s best when the DreamBox is kept open most of the time or a stable base is created using one of the tips below.
“I highly recommend putting the DreamBox on plywood if you have a thicker carpet. It’s so much easier to maneuver, open and close.” - Jessica D., Facebook Group
Shag Carpet:
Shag carpet isn’t ideal for the DreamBox. The long, plush fibers can interfere with the folding mechanism and put extra stress on the DreamBox’s joints and hinges. But do not worry, you still have options! A supportive mat or plywood can both work great. Read below for specific ideas.
How to Make Your DreamBox Work on Carpet
Even if your carpet isn’t ideal there are simple and easy ways to make your DreamBox still functional in your space. Here are our top solutions:
Plastic or Tempered Glass Mat
A flat, clear mat prevents snagging and adds stability. Depending on your DreamBox size, two mats often work best.
“I tried my DreamBox on carpet but it was a bit wobbly, so I bought some tempered glass desk mats to go under it. Works great!” – Debby A., Facebook Group
Plywood Base
A thin sheet of plywood creates a sturdy foundation even on thick or uneven carpet. This is a popular option for our DreamBox owners who have carpet. Many also add peel-and-stick tiles or decorations to blend the plywood into their space!
“We bought two sheets of furniture-grade plywood, routed the edges, and secured them together with brackets. My DreamBox rolls great and looks fine over the carpet.” – Terri C., Facebook Group
“My DreamBox sits on a piece of plywood (6.5’ x 4’ x 1/4”) covered in sticky tiles from Home Depot. Opens and closes much easier now!” – Kristine E., Facebook Group
"I used to have my DreamBox on carpet, but I recently put it on plywood instead. Mine is 1/2" thick and I glued peel and stick floor tiles from Home Depot on there. It opens and closes much easier now!” - Kathy E., Facebook Group

New Flooring Section
If you’re open to redesigning your creative space, a small section of hard flooring (vinyl, laminate, or tile) can be added to provide a permanent, stable spot for your DreamBox.
Keep It Open
If you have plush carpet but don’t want to add a stable base, if you leave your DreamBox open all the time, this can also be a solution. Just beware that wear and tear on the hinges can occur if you decide to close it. But keeping it open can help you see your supplies more and get right to crafting!
“I have had mine on carpet for 5 years. I never close mine—it’s too beautiful!” – Terri O., Facebook Group
